This DIY coffee scrub is rich in minerals, exfoliating and helps to smooth cellulite, soothe varicose veins, and brighten and tighten aging skin. Make it in just 5 minutes.
Coffee scrubs are a folk remedy for varicose veins, cellulite, and age spots.ย Coffee is rich in antioxidants while the caffeine in coffee tightens capillaries, and brightens the skin.ย Many folks just use the leftover coffee grounds from their coffee machine and apply them to their skin in the daily shower.ย It works.
The caffeine in the coffee tightens the skin, reduces the appearance of cellulite and diminishes puffiness.ย This recipe is a little more convenient than using leftover coffee grounds in the shower, with the bonus benefits of mineral rich Dead Sea salt and moisturizing coffee infused oil.
The gentle exfoliating effects of this scrub brighten the skin while stimulating blood flow.ย Dead Sea salt nourishes the skin with magnesium, sulfur, bromide, potassium, calcium, sodium, and other essential minerals.
When you make your own coffee scrub you save money, control the ingredients, and have the assurance that your skin care regime is free of toxic chemicals.ย This makes a lovely gift, too.
Step 1: Make Coffee infused oil
This recipe begins with coffee infused olive oil.ย You might have some already if you made the coffee eye cream here.ย If not here’s how to infuse coffee beans in olive oil.
Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoon organic coffee, freshly ground
- 2/3 cup olive oil
Directions:
- In an 8 ounce Mason jar place the ground coffee. Cover the coffee with olive oil until it is fully covered.ย Cap the jar tightly.ย Shake to evenly distribute the oil in the coffee.ย Add more oil if necessary to keep the coffee submerged in the oil.
- Set aside.ย Shake the jar once daily for a week.ย Pour the coffee infused oil through a fine tea strainer to drain the coffee grounds.ย Press the grounds with the back of a spoon to capture the last drops of oil.ย Retain the oil.
- You can return the coffee grounds to the jar and infuse again with fresh oil if you wish.ย There is a lot of flavour in the coffee grounds.
- The coffee infused oil can be used in the following DIY Coffee Scrub.
Essential oils
Grapefruit essential oil contains the anti-inflammatory enzyme bromelain, which helps break down cellulite.
Cedarwood Atlas essential oil reduces fluid retention and stimulates the cells to release toxic build up which lessens cellulite build up.
Rosemary essential oil is anti-inflammatory, combating fluid retention and sluggish circulation.
Step 2: Make Coffee Scrub and brighten dull skin
Yield: ยฝ cup or 4 ounces
Ingredients:
- ยฝ cup Dead Sea salts, fine grain
- 2 tablespoon, freshly ground organic fair trade coffee
- 2 teaspoons castile soap
- 1 tablespoon coffee infused olive oil
- 10 drops cedarwood atlas essential oil
- 6 drops grapefruit essential oil
- 3 drops rosemary essential oil
- Place the Dead Sea Salt and ground coffee in a bowl.
- Add castile soap and coffee infused oil.ย Stir to combine.
- Add cedarwood atlas, grapefruit, and rosemary essential oils.ย Stir well.
- Place in aย glass jar or silicone squeeze bottle with tight-fitting lid.ย For using in the shower I prefer a squeeze tube since it is unbreakable when dropped.
To use:
In the shower, wet your body.ย Turn off the water.ย ย Take a small amount of the Dead Sea salt coffee scrub and apply in a circular motion on your skin.ย Apply only light pressure.ย Cover your skin with the scrub.ย Rinse fully with warm water.ย Pat dry.
The DIY coffee scrub exfoliates, stimulates circulation, and tightens your skin.ย The caffeine in coffee is known to reduce the appearance of cellulite while it brightens and tightens the skin.ย The antioxidants in the coffee are beneficial for fighting free radical damage and renewing aging skin by stimulating circulation and reducing water in the tissues.ย The coffee infused oil moisturizes and leaves your skin brighter and softer.
While soaking in a bath with Dead Sea Salt has been shown to improve eczema and psoriasis, itโs best to avoid using this scrub on broken skin or eczema as the salt can sting open wounds and the stimulation of the caffeine can be drying for people with eczema. Sugar scrubs without caffeine are better for skin rashes and less drying to already challenging skin issues.
Caution:ย Always use a nonslip mat in the shower when using any kind of salt scrub or sugar scrub. The oils in DIY products can make shower floors and bath tubs dangerously slippery.
