Why we hired a photographer!
Sarah finished the first draft of her first (completed) novel this week. She also turned 21. And she has only 7 credits left in her Bachelor of Science degree in Leadership — so far Magnum Cum Laude. (Proud momma moment) As homeschoolers from K through university, we haven’t had many opportunities to have professional pictures taken. There are no school pictures, and only occasional birthday cake and candles pictures — when we actually remember to take a picture. So when Sarah’s friend, Maddie, a professional photographer, was visiting the area from her home in Germany, we asked hired her to come to the farm and take some pictures for our blogs, for Sarah’s book cover, and for Sarah’s grad.
Maddie is currently working with Youth With A Mission in Germany, in their Marriage of the Arts program. She is one of the leaders. She returns to Germany this week so we were very blessed that she could spend the greater part of a morning with us, catching the light in the garden. Her pictures are way better than mine. Mine kept getting leaves or stray branches in the way. Of course, that’s why I needed Maddie.
It was so much fun!
While I was included in the photoshoot, you’ll have to wait to see the ones Maddie took of the two of us. I took these all these ones.
Milestones to celebrate with pictures
- Graduation high school, university, grad school
- Finishing a big project or even a step on the road to a big project, like the first draft of a 75,000 word novel
- Starting something new — a new business, a new project, new website
- Reaching a landmark birthday
- Just because you’re worth it and you’re beautiful

Maddy was very responsive to our needs for pictures — including an Author Picture for Sarah’s first novel, “The Prophet’s Shield.”
