This Orange Sugar Scrub recipe makes an awesome gift. Make it in under 10 minutes, while using what you already have in your house AND it is good for your skin.
It took me way too long to realize you can make sugar scrubs at home. I thought sugar scrubs were only something you got as a gift like when you get fancy bath stuff at Christmas or from those swanky shops that smell so strong you can smell them a mile away.
Well, was I ever wrong! And I am so glad I figured it out. This Orange Sugar Scrub recipe is so easy to make at home and way cheaper than you can get at the store. This is such a nice and easy way to pamper yourself. Plus, it makes such a unique gift that really has that wow factor.
This Orange Sugar Scrub recipe is for one small jar, but it is very easily doubled so you can make one for a gift and keep one for yourself. In fact, you can take this Orange Sugar Scrub recipe and multiply it by however many you want to give as gifts.
Anyways, you are here now to make this Orange Sugar Scrub recipe. First, we are going to talk about sweet orange essential oil. You need to add the essential oil in order for it to really get that orangey smell, otherwise, it smells more like coconut from the oil. Not only that though, the sweet orange essential oil is also good for your skin. It gives clarity, radiance and smoothness to your skin which can give a more youthful appearance. This is especially wonderful for your hands because we beat them up quite a bit throughout our lifetime. It also has been known to increase blood flow and even in some cases, reverse the aging process. Now you never want to put this oil directly, undiluted onto your skin, but that’s not an issue here in this recipe.
The rest of the ingredients you probably have in your house right now. You’ll need a mixing bowl and:
- Coconut oil. Any kind you have will work. You want to melt it, but you don’t want it hot because you don’t want to melt the sugar
- I used cane sugar, but you can use any kind of sugar you have on hand. The only thing you want is, to try and get the bigger grains in your sugar because it makes for a better scrub.
- Orange Zest. You need the zest of 1 orange to make a single batch of Orange Sugar Scrub. Use the orange fruit in your tossed salad, so you don’t waste it. Here’s more ways to use orange zest, if you have an abundance of oranges.
DiY Orange Scrub That’s Perfect for Gifts
Description
A sweet scented, and fun to make, exfoliating sugar scrub with sweet orange and orange zest.
Ingredients
- ½ Cup coconut oil – melted – but not hot
- 1 cup Sugar
- Zest from 1 orange
- 10 drops orange essential oil
- Small mason jar
- Twine
- Craft paper or cardstock
Instructions
- Melt the coconut oil until liquid, but don’t make it hot. A few seconds in the microwave will do. Or half an hour in a sunny windowsill.
- While your oil is melting, get the zest from one orange. If you have a microplane to zest your orange, great because it makes zesting an orange faster. However, an ordinary grater will work as well.
- Put the sugar in the mixing bowl and once your coconut oil is melted, add it to the bowl.
- Mix until incorporated.
- Add your orange zest and sweet orange essential oil and mix again.
- Your orange scrub is done.
- Package it in a nice glass jar for storing or giving away. I used a small mason jar, but any small jar will work.
- Use some nice paper or cardstock and make a label or card. Use some twine or string to attach it to your jar and you’re done.

Making your orange scrub
Melt the coconut oil until liquid, but you don’t want it hot. It was 40 seconds in my microwave but you can melt your oil in a dehydrator, on the stovetop, by putting it in a sunny window and waiting, or maybe if your place is warm enough, your coconut oil is already melted.
While your oil is melting, get the zest from one orange. If you have a microplane to zest your orange, great because it makes zesting an orange faster. However, an ordinary grater will work as well.
Put the sugar in the mixing bowl and once your coconut oil is melted, add it to the bowl and mix until incorporated. Then add your orange zest and sweet orange essential oil and mix again.
Your orange scrub is done. You did it!
Now you want to put it in a nice package for storing or giving away. I used a small mason jar, but any small jar will work. Get some nice paper or cardstock and make a label or card. Use some nice twine or string to attach it to your jar and voila. Orange Sugar Scrub that you made yourself! Go ahead, pamper yourself, you’re allowed.
You can even use this recipe with a different essential oil for a different scent, but sweet orange is the best because of the benefits to your skin and the invigorating orange scent is uplifting, too.
If you want to take your gift giving up another notch, you can make a bunch of bath products and give a pamper basket to your friends and family. Fill it with dandelion bath bombs, homemade bath salts, homemade salt scrub and some lavender lotion bars. You’ll definitely become the favourite with a homemade spa basket like this.
