2015 is the year to tap into that creativity that you’ve buried under the weight of the daily to-do list. Creativity is life giving, soul sustaining, and therapeutic. I never understand why they take away a person’s knitting needles on transcontinental flights. People are more dangerous without knitting needles. (Just sayin’)
In the spirit of encouraging your DiY, creativity and inspiration, I wanted to tell you about two amazing opportunities that came across my desk this week. I think they are exactly what we need at this time of year to fight cabin-fever, and that cold, empty feeling that threatens our gardening dreams, when we look at the grey, falling snow outside the kitchen window. (Yes, I have grey, falling snow outside my kitchen window as I write…)

Have you explored Craftsy yet? Craftsy is an online skills school that will help you learn the skills you need for your DiY life. I’ll admit, it took me a while to warm up to them. I saw their banners on other websites but the orange and black colours didn’t appeal to me so I never clicked. It was my loss.
Recently Craftsy was recommended to me as an easy way to take classes from the comfort of my own home. In the cold, dark of January that seems really appealing. No need to drive 40 minutes through ice and snow, once a week to take a class at the local college, and then drive home in the dark, chased by the snowplow. So I decided to check their offerings.
Not your grandma’s knitting! Wow! There are cooking classes, baking classes, weaving, spinning, crochet, quilting, sewing, drawing and painting, photography, and yes, knitting. I found a class in sourdough baking, by a professional artisan bread baker: Handmade Sourdough: From Starter to Baked Loaf, with Richard Miscovich , a class on wood turning kitchen tools: Woodturning Basics: 7 Handy Kitchen Items (with Andy Chapman), and a photography class for taking better pictures of my goats milk soap: Shoot It: Product Photography Class. They are in my wish list and when I’m finished this post I’ll be signing up for the Sourdough class.
I was going to wait to tell you about Craftsy’s offerings until I had taken the Sourdough bread baking classes. But Craftsy is offering a 3 day sale right now — and I wouldn’t be a good friend if I didn’t share this opportunity with you before it expires on Sunday.
