DIY aromatherapy wax tarts made with beeswax replace chemical room fresheners, promoting healthier indoor air. They are also useful in the kitchen too remove musty odors without using toxic chemicals.
You may have seen the electrical, or even candle based, wax melting devices for home air freshening. Wax burners need their little wax discs to be effective. The wax melts over-time, releasing scent into the air. If using a candle based one, it should be kept under observation at all times as unattended hot wax can burst into flames. I would also not recommend leaving an electric wax burner unattended.
Wax burners work with wax tarts to help freshen indoor air. The challenge is, that commercial wax tarts are based on paraffin wax, artificial scents, and perfumes. While the burners and commercial tarts are easy to source, you don’t really need more chemicals being added to your home air quality, particularly during the winter.
These citrus twist aromatherapy wax tarts are a great Christmas scent, that freshens your indoor air, while preserving air quality. Made with natural essential oils, and beeswax, these tarts can help improve your indoor air quality, while adding refreshing smells to the air. You can make your own batch of aromatherapy wax tarts in about an hour, or less, of hands-on time and have five tarts to use with your wax burner.
Choose your mold based on the size of tart your wax burner takes. If it is a small wax burner, you may need a smaller mold than is recommended. Our molds were about 1.5 ounces per tart. A smaller mold, like a small silicon ice-cube mold, can give tarts that are suitable for smaller wax burners.

To use beeswax wax melts
Place the wax tarts into the top of an essential oil candle diffuser. Light a tea candle below the reservoir. As the was in the reservoir melts, it will release its scent.
You can refresh the scent of these natural wax melts by adding more essential oils to the reservoir when the fragrance dims. The wax tart can be used over and over.
When you are ready to clean the candle diffuser, simply warm the dish and wipe out the used wax. This is a no-waste project; the wax can be reused in other applications.
