Joybilee Farm is Celebrating!
On Thursday Joybilee Farm’s Facebook Page made 5K fans.ย This is an exciting achievement that we’ve been working on since June 2011 and we didn’t do it alone.ย Our friends and fans on Facebook shared the daily free Kindle posts and shared our blog articles to help us reach the 5K milestone.ย Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness in sharing my posts.ย I am very grateful.
To celebrate we planned a blog draw.ย In thinking about what would make you happy, and help you learn more self reliant skills for back yard homesteading, I was torn between giving away the newest Kindle model — The Kindle Paperwhite or giving you a solar charger to help you be more self reliant with your electronic devices.ย I decided on the Kindle Paperwhite because frankly, I think its the brightest, and easiest to read Kindle that Amazon has come up with.
Many of you told me that you are reading the hundreds of free Homestead and Homeschooling Kindle books that you’ve downloaded for free from the Joybilee Farm blog and the Joybilee Farm Facebook page, on your computer, phone, or tablet, using the free Kindle app.ย You’ve been wanting a Kindle of your own, but you have other priorities for your budget right now.ย Others of you already have a Kindle of your own.ย ย But I’m sure even those of you with your own Kindle can think of a use for another oneย — a gift, a back up Kindle to hold your prepping books, a Kindle to read while the grand kids are using your Kindle Fire to play one of the free daily Kindle Fire apps.
The new Kindle Paperwhite has a bright white screen with dark print, giving the strongest print contrast of any Kindle.ย It has a special light that allows you to read easily in bright sunlight, and in the dark, no reading light required.ย It will hold up to 1,100 Kindle books.ย Plus it has a built in wifi so that you can download books on the go.ย Do you want one yet?
Here’s the Specs:
Display Amazon’s 6″ Paperwhite display with patented built-in light, 212 ppi, optimized font technology, 16-level gray scale
Size 6.7″ x 4.6″ x 0.36″ (169 mm x 117 mm x 9.1 mm)
Weight 7.5 ounces (213 grams)
System Requirements None; fully wireless and doesn’t require a computer to download content
On-Device Storage 2 GB internal (approximately 1.25 GB available for user content). Holds up to 1,100 books
Cloud Storage Free cloud storage for all Amazon content
Battery Life A single charge lasts up to eight weeks, based on a half hour of reading per day with wireless off and the light setting at 10. Battery life will vary based on light and wireless usage
Charge Time Fully charges in approximately 4 hours from a computer via USB cable
Wi-Fi Connectivity Supports public and private Wi-Fi networks or hotspots that use the 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n standard with support for WEP, WPA and WPA2 security using password authentication or Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)
Content Formats Supported Kindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP through conversion
Documentation Quick Start Guide (included in box) [PDF]; Kindle Paperwhite User Guide (pre-installed on device) [PDF]. Additional information in multiple languages available online
Warranty and Service 1-year limited warranty and service included. Optional 2-year Extended Warranty available for U.S. customers sold separately. Use of Kindle is subject to the terms found here
Included in the Box Kindle Paperwhite, USB 2.0 charging cable and Quick Start Guide (Value: $119US)
This draw is 100% sponsored by Joybilee Farm and our other blogs Wearing Woad, and Turning For Profit.ย Amazon is not providing the Kindle Paperwhite for this draw.ย Just so you know.ย We are doing this because you are the best fans in the world, and if we could give everyone of you a Kindle we would.ย But since we can’t — we’ve chosen to give one of you this awesome prize.ย You can thank me by sharing, ‘liking’, commenting, and following, to help us grow this awesome community.
If we make it to 10K fans on the Joybilee Farm Facebook page before the end of the giveaway on November 16th at midnight PST, we’ll do a second draw for a small solar charger to charge your small electronic devices, and we’ll have two winners.
Thanks for entering. You can come back every day, share my Joybilee Farm Free Homestead Kindle Book post of the day, and get another entry. The more times you share, the greater your chance of winning the Kindle Paperwhite. Good Luck!

What a great giveaway! I would love to learn more about hot to store and prep REAL FOOD (not just grains either preferably) and store them for the long haul. Tabitha, you don’t need to have a Kindle to get the free books. There’s a free app from Amazon so you can download them to your computer or phone. You can even buy them for free and read them online in the cloud. So make sure you pick the freebies up while they are still free. Some of them are full length books that are $20 or more in the print edition. (Admittedly some of them are also crap, but you can delete those if you don’t like them.)
Chris

I’ve been downloading the e-books to my computer. The kindle would make it sooooo much nicer. I wouldn’t be stuck in one place. Now I only get a short time to read. If I could move around, I could get in a little more time!

Thanks for this awesome giveaway! I’ve been wanting a kindle for a while now… especially with all the wonderful resources you post on here daily! I would personally love to see more about anything to do with herbs – eating, preserving, making medicine (both internal and topical). But also, I’d love to see more just plain examples of stuff you do, be it food related, animal related, garden related, or craft related. Seeing the actually projects you’re working on adds a lot of interest and relatability to your blog. Thanks again for everything ๐

I would so love to own a Kindle! I have downloaded the free app to use with my pc, so I do benefit from the free book offers, but would be in “Readers Heaven” if I had a ‘portable’ Kindle! My eyesight should hold for a few yrs yet, and with the lighted page and no glare it will improve this! I very much like that there is an audio option also, for the yrs ahead. Thank you so much for your kindness & generosity in providing this drawing!
