Welcome to the Advent DIY Christmas Gift Challenge!
BEHIND EACH DOOR THERE IS A SURPRISE. IT MIGHT BE:
- A Recipe or DIY project that you can do in 15 to 30 minutes
- A fun video
- A cookie exchange
- A memory
- A treat
Are you going to join in the fun? If you are, go to the comments below and type in, “I’m in” so I know to expect you.
What the next 2 weeks holds for you:
I’m so glad you decided to join in the fun for the next few weeks. Here’s how it works:
- First you’ll want to bookmark this page so you can get back here easily.
- Then, each day, during the challenge, you’ll go to the Advent Calendar below, and open 1 window of this virtual Advent Calendar. You’ll find behind that door a DIY Gift to Make, a fun video or game, a quick craft, or another holiday inspiration to enjoy. It will be fun. You will get gifts made. You will be inspired.
You choose which gifts you want to make. It’s a choose your own adventure!
At the end of the challenge you will have the instructions to create small, simple gifts suitable for:
- A BFF
- A Mom or Grandma
- A Dad or Granddad
- A preschooler
- A child
- A teenager
- A neighbor
- A hostess
- A teacher
- A pet
Most of the gifts can be completed in under 1 hour. Some will take you less than 15 minutes. Choose to make as many or as few of each gift project as you wish. Each project has a specific list of materials or ingredients, but go ahead and change them to suit your family and the ingredients you have on hand. If you need guidance as you tweak the recipes or instructions, pop over to the Facebook group, where Chris will answer your questions.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What if there is a gift I don’t need for the names on my list?
A: No problem. You have three choices. You can skip that gift. You can go ahead and make it anyway and keep it for yourself. You can go ahead and make it anyway and give it to a shelter, a school, or a charity.
Q: What if I can’t keep up?
A: Don’t give up. We’re leaving the Advent DIY Christmas challenge up for December. Some people celebrate Christmas through to January 7th, St. Distaff’s Day/Orthodox Christmas. You can add your say to the Facebook group threads right through the holidays as you find a reason to chime in. (pun intended).
But there are some perks for those who keep up.
- Camaraderie
- Less stress
- More hot chocolate
- More connection
- Christmas music
- Christmas Stories
- Christmas cookies (gluten free, even)
- Surprises
Q: What about the supply list?
A: I hesitated to create a supply list for this challenge because not every one will want to create every item on the list. Also I didn’t want to spoil the surprises by giving hints ahead of time about what’s behind the doors on the Advent Calendar.
But I’ve made a tentative list of supplies based on the individual gift recipient. So for instance, I have a list of ingredients for the DIY gifts for guys. If there are no guys on your list you could skip these ingredients, when you are shopping for supplies.
You can find the list of supplies in the File Section of the Facebook group.
Q: How much does it cost to participate?
A: Your time which is a precious and irreplaceable treasure. Those who receive your handmade gifts are being given your time, in a tangible way.
This Advent DIY Christmas Challenge is my gift to you. There is no cost to participate in the challenge, except for the cost of the materials you need for the gifts you are making, and your time to show up and have fun.
This is predominantly a Facebook Group challenge, so head over to the Facebook group and make sure you are signed up, if you are NOT already a member of the FREE Facebook group…
How the Advent DIY Christmas Challenge works:
Each day, after you open a window in the Advent calendar, you’ll be asked to head over to the Facebook Group and leave a comment or post a photo in the daily Advent DIY Christmas Challenge Thread. The Facebook group will be filled with inspiring photos and ideas, and we want yours to be there too.
Note that you will NOT be able to open a window in the Advent Calendar early. That would be cheating. (No sneak peeks). So plan to head over here to the advent calendar each day to find out what special surprises we have in store for you. As I said many of the challenge assignments can be completed in less than 15 minutes. Only a few will take as long as an hour.
Chris will be doing Facebook Lives in the Facebook group during the Challenge. These sessions will be recorded, so you can watch later, but those who join in live might be surprised. We’re giving away prizes. But you have to be in the “Facebook live” LIVE to win a prize.
If you are looking for the Facebook Live videos, you’ll find them in the Announcement posts, so you won’t miss any.
