Description

Use a simple bread recipe to make quick and easy doughnuts any day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups warm water
  • 3tbsp. baking yeast (NOT instant)
  • 3 tbsp Himalayan salt
  • 2 cups flour, white high gluten bread flour
  • 1/2 cup flax seed, freshly ground
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 6 cups flour, whole wheat
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  • Put the warm water, and yeast in your mixing bowl and let the yeast prove.
  • Once the yeast is bubbly add the other ingredients, holding back half the flour.
  • Mix with your mixer’s dough attachment until gluten is activated.
  • Mix in 2 more cups of flour, half a cup at a time.
  • Knead dough with mixer, or by hand, until dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Cover and let rise for 30 minutes to one hour.
  • Punch down the risen dough.
  • Prepare a frying pan with coconut oil, at least ½ inch deep. While it heats, form 6 ¼ cup size pieces of dough into donuts.
  • Also prepare a small dish with ½ cup sugar and 1tsp of cinnamon to dip the donuts in when done.
  • Oil is ready to deep-fry when you sprinkle a drop or two of water on it, and it sizzles vigorously.
  • Place three donuts in the oil and cook till golden brown. Flip and cook the second side till golden brown use a slotted spoon for flipping.
  • Remove the doughnuts from the oil and let drain. Once no longer dripping, dredge them through the cinnamon sugar till covered.
  • Fry the next donuts. These doughnuts are best served hot.

Notes

Prep and Cook time does not include rising time for the bread.
